Duval County Jail Inmate Communication Overview

Duval County Jail, officially the John E. Goode Pre-Trial Detention Facility, is the main county jail in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, operated by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. It holds pretrial detainees for the consolidated city-county government of Jacksonville and Duval County. There is no in-person visitation here; all family visits happen by video.

Communication runs through GTL's platforms. Video visits are scheduled through GettingOut, GTL's consumer site, where remote visits from home carry a per-minute fee and the inmate calls you once you are connected. Phone accounts are funded through the GTL phone system, and the inmate places the calls. Families must register and verify their identity on GettingOut before scheduling a visit, and each visit requires the inmate's approval.

Since late 2024, personal mail no longer goes to the jail directly; letters are sent to a processing center and scanned to the inmate's tablet. Money for commissary goes through Access Secure Deposits rather than directly to the jail. Because mail and video both run through outside systems, families should set up their GettingOut account as soon as they know their loved one is in custody.
