What Is Attorney Call?
An attorney call is a phone call between an incarcerated person and their legal counsel that is legally protected and not recorded or monitored. Attorney calls are exempt from the standard recording and monitoring that applies to all other inmate phone calls. For an attorney call to be protected, the attorney's phone number must typically be verified and registered with the facility as a legal contact. Attorney-client privilege applies to these calls.
An inmate's attorney contacts the facility and registers their direct line as a legal number. When the inmate calls that number from the facility phone, the call is not recorded and is protected by attorney-client privilege.
