Missouri Inmate Communication Overview
Missouri operates its state prison system through the Missouri Department of Corrections (MDOC). Securus Technologies is the phone service provider for all MDOC adult institutions. All calls are outbound from the facility. Inmates cannot receive incoming calls. Inmates use a personal identification number (PIN) to place calls through the automated security system. All calls are monitored and recorded. A recorded message plays throughout the conversation alerting both parties that the call originates from a correctional facility.
Missouri DOC issues JPay computer tablets to all inmates in adult institutions. These tablets can be used to send and receive email through Securus Technologies. To communicate electronically with a Missouri DOC inmate, create a Securus account at securustech.net. Electronic messages are paid for by purchasing a book of electronic stamps. Families can send text messages, attach up to five photos, share a 30-second VideoGram, or send an image using Snap n Send. All messages, photos, and VideoGrams are subject to review.
Missouri personal mail is no longer accepted directly at most facilities. All personal correspondence now goes to the Securus JPay digital mail center for scanning. To request personal correspondence be returned, call Securus at 800-844-6591. Missouri DOC facilities still accept certified mail pre-approved by the case manager, publications sent directly from publishers, visitor applications, and cards purchased through securustech.net. The DOC number must appear on the outside of every envelope or mail is delayed or returned.
Which provider do Missouri state prison families use?
Securus Technologies handles both phone calls and electronic messaging at all MDOC adult institutions. For phone accounts visit securustech.net or call 800-844-6591. For electronic messaging create a Securus account and purchase electronic stamps. Missouri DOC inmates also make calls through a phone application on JPay tablets powered by Securus. Phone privileges can be revoked for misuse including attempted three-way calls.
What is the DOC number and why is it important?
The DOC number is the unique identification number assigned by MDOC to every person sentenced to Missouri state prison. It must appear on the outside of every envelope mailed to a Missouri DOC facility. Mail without the DOC number is delayed or returned. Find the DOC number through the MDOC offender search at doc.mo.gov or ask your loved one to provide it.
What is the most common mistake Missouri prison families make?
Mailing personal letters directly to the facility is a common mistake. Missouri DOC personal mail now goes to the Securus JPay digital mail center for scanning rather than directly to the facility. Families used to direct mail who are not aware of this change may find their letters returned or delayed. Always check the current mailing procedures at doc.mo.gov before sending mail to confirm the correct address.
