Georgia operates its state prison system through the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC). Securus Technologies holds the GDC contract for phone calls at most state prisons. JPay handles electronic messaging, video visits, and money transfers. Georgia has 159 counties with individual county jails that negotiate their own provider contracts separately from GDC state prisons. Every person in GDC custody is assigned a GDC number at intake that stays with them for their entire sentence regardless of facility transfers.
Georgia is not among the states that offer free inmate phone calls. Families pay per-minute rates subject to FCC caps effective April 6, 2026. Phone calls at GDC state prisons cost $0.06 per minute under the current Securus contract. A 25-minute call costs approximately $1.50. The GDC number must appear on all mail sent to a GDC facility. You must be on the offender's approved visitor list to send money to them.
