Minimum security is the lowest level of security classification in the correctional system.
What Is Minimum Security?
Minimum security is the lowest level of security classification in the correctional system. Minimum security facilities house inmates who pose the lowest risk, have shorter sentences, or have demonstrated good behavior. They have fewer physical restrictions and typically more relaxed communication rules. Federal minimum security facilities are called Federal Prison Camps (FPC).
After serving several years at a medium security facility with good behavior, an inmate is reclassified and transferred to a minimum security Federal Prison Camp where they have more freedom of movement and more flexible communication hours.
